This piece was inspired by a photograph I saw the fashion model I've always appreciated the colors and poses of the models and things that I see that strike me as far as that goes are often the basis for my figurative paintings. The model in the picture had an interesting Asian look and a strange way that her body was cocked and to me it just seemed very sassy and attitude infused. It's hard for me to communicate how one image or one task that I'm doing when I'm working on a piece strikes a chord that sets off another idea or decision it's basically automatic reaction at this point I don't even think of it I just let my intuition lead the way and my years of painting know what to do. So the second component of the Peace when I was sketching the composition was the squid and I like the idea of its tentacles wrapping around form like a circle and then I knew that since it was a squid she was obviously underwater and she is going to be a mermaid the cool attitude in the cool colors or what led to the narrative in my mind that she has an Arctic mermaid swimming around those poles.
This piece was created starting at Mountain Music Festival in 2021. I really enjoyed creating all the underwater foliage and coral and felt that these types of shapes and plants really lent themselves to the application of the puffy UV reactive paint so when I do a piece that is UV reactive I work on it both in the backlight to make sure it looks awesome that way and also in the regular light to make sure that it is still solid as far as a regular painting go is because people rarely have backlight going Non-Stop and their homes or businesses. the way the whole Painting came together is very pleasing to me and the shapes all seem to complement each other and the curves of the plants and the curve of the mermaids body speak to the water that she's submerged in. There's a slight light source in the top left that hints at the surface. the original of this piece for sale on my original shop is UV reactive. the prince will not be but if you wished you purchase a UV reactive print I can embellish a print with UV reactive paint for an additional fee please contact me if you are interested in this or have any questions thank you so much.
